EUC Policy Challenge – Promoting ASEAN Tourism

posted by eucentresg

During the ASEAN Summit meeting in Kuala Lumpur in November 2015, the ASEAN leaders formally declared that the ASEAN Community would be established on 31 December 2015. The leaders were also quick to add that community-building is an on-going process, and hence adopted ASEAN 2025, a plan for the next decade of ASEAN integration.

The EU Centre in preparation for the launch of the ASEAN Community held a policy challenge competition calling on youths in ASEAN to reflect on the challenges of regional integration and come out with ideas on promoting ASEAN tourism. Tourism is a priority sector for the ASEAN Economic Community, and intra-ASEAN tourism is also seen as an important avenue for promoting people-to-people connectivity, and contributing to the building of an ASEAN identity.

A total of 45 teams submitted their entries providing a brief overview and outline of their policy proposals. Four of these entries were shortlisted and the teams asked to further elaborate on the proposals to comprehensive policy briefs.
