Singapore President Halimah Yacob, the island-state’s first female President, accredited Ambassadors for the first time on 25 October 2017. EU Ambassador Barbara Plinkert was one of them.
The Presentation of Credentials ceremony started against the backdrop of the Presidential Palace’s lush lawns with Ambassador Plinkert being received by Singapore’s guard of honour. After the inspection of the guard of honour, Ambassador Plinkert signed the guest book and presented her letters of credence to President Yacob.
The ceremony was concluded by a meeting with the President which took place in an open and friendly atmosphere where both sides stressed the strong partnership between the EU and Singapore. Upcoming opportunities for further engagement were also discussed, particularly in the context of the signing and implementation of the EU-Singapore Free Trade Agreement and the EU-Singapore Partnership and Cooperation Agreement.
