This year promises to be another exciting year for the EU Centre with a series of lectures and panel discussions and conference aimed of very timely and relevant topics for the EU and its partner, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). We will be discussing how the two regional organisations and its member states respond to an assertive Global China; how EU and ASEAN can move towards a relationship with a strategic purpose in their engagements at multilateral forums such as the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) and the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF). Together with one of our longstanding partner, we will be also bringing out a book on “Multilateralism in a changing global order”. We would of course continue to offer our weekly “News and Views” on Europe, a succinct news summary of events in Europe and their impact on policies. As we approach our 10th year, it will also be a year of reflection on how the Centre can move forward. As a very small Centre with very limited resources, we rely on partnership and active collaboration with other institutions and organisations – from foundations such as the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung to embassies, government agencies and other research institutions and think tanks – to multiply our outreach efforts and diversify our repertoire of activities. We are grateful to be able to work with them, and look forward to another year of fruitful collaboration to bring about more debates and dialogue on developments in the EU and ASEAN and how these two important regional organisations should work together to support a peaceful and just multilateral world order. This comes at an important time as Singapore takes the Chair of ASEAN for 2018. Once again, thanks to all of you for your support of the Centre and most importantly, let me wish you a splendid 2018! ![]() Read More |
