Applications are now open for the Brussels Summer School for Young Leaders with a theme of ‘EU as a Global Actor’ that will again be held at the Institute d’Études Européennes – Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) in Brussels from 24 June – 28 June 2019.

Debate Europe’s Challenges with EU & NATO Leaders!
As a leading Summer School held in the ‘Capital of Europe’, the one-week program aims to immerse undergraduate and postgraduate university students as well as young professionals into the theory and practice of EU policymaking. Through a series of lectures, debates, workshops and study trips to different EU institutions, the Brussels Summer School for Young Leaders: ‘EU as a Global Actor’ provides the participants with a policymaker’s ‘insider’ perspective into how the European Union and its leaders deal with the closely interlinked key contemporary security, economic and political challenges facing the block.

The program builds upon our strong links with Brussels-based institutions and organizations. The lectures and discussions will be conducted, among others, by the following senior EU leaders, policy makers and diplomats, top NATO officials and leading academic experts:

Maroš Ševčovič ~ Vice-President of the European Commission & European Commissioner for the EU Energy Union
Gilles de Kerchove ~ EU Counter-Terrorism Coordinator, former Director of Justice & Home Affairs in the Council Secretariat
Dr. Pavel Telička ~ Vice-President of the European Parliament
Ambassador Daniel Costello ~ Ambassador of Canada to the European Union
Paul Nuber ~ Senior Executive in a Fortune 50 Company
Dr. Andreas List ~ Senior EU diplomat, former Head of the EU Office in Myanmar
Dr. Hiddo Houben ~ Head of Unit, European Commission, EU’s Chief Negotiator for TTIP Negotiations
Alian Ruche ~ Former Senior Advisor to the Secretary General of the European External Action Service, EEAS
Dr. Petr Lunak ~ Deputy Head, NATO Public Diplomacy Division, NATO Headquarters
Xavier Nuttin ~ Former Senior Advisor in the European Parliament, Senior Associate at EIAS
Prof. Paul Joseph Lim ~ Professor of International Relations, University of Tübingen, Germany

The Brussels Summer School will broaden your knowledge of how the European Union functions and how it deals with different security, economic and political challenges it faces in today’s increasingly complex international system. This one-week of academic and life-enhancing immersion in Brussels – Europe’s Capital City – will ultimately expand your professional, academic and social networks to help enhance your future career prospects. All participants will be awarded 3 ECTS credit points and receive ‘Certificate of Participation’ confirming their active participations and successful completion of this academic program.
