It contains all the “details and essential information about the European Union”, including a wrap of the EU’s weekly agenda, the latest news, and useful background dossiers such as on the financial crisis, European elections in 2009, or multilingualism. What is unique about the site is that it puts together all the key information, news clips, videos, background readings, and related stories in packages, so you get a broad sweep of what you need to know quickly, visuals, texts and clips, via all the available sources, from the internet, news agencies and print media. The EU in a Nutshell
“The EU in slides” is by far one of the most brief summary of the EU that the editor could find on the Europa site. Here you would the EU illustrated by image rich powerpoint slides – 47 of them. Each focuses on what the EU is or does or how it works such as key facts and figures, its activities and administrative setup. What was interesting was to learn how rich the EU is compared with the rest of the world- after the US and Japan, and how this money is spent – each on only one slide! And to note that the EU is also the biggest provider of development aid globally. This European Documentation Centre helps researchers and students find reliable information about the EU, particularly official data. From one portal, instead of several, you can access the Official Journal, the official source of European Community legislation, draft legislation, official announcements and information about the activities of community institutions. The Bulletin is a monthly report on Community activities. Its subject arrangement and detailed bibliographical references to official documents make it an essential research tool. You can also access debates and reports of the European Parliament, official reports of the Court of Justice, and working documents of the Commission. The web portal is a tool for both researchers and the laymen. It presents links to key EU websites, including the EC online library, institutions, research bodies, and EU activities by subject.
